Retail Focus: DELLA’s Threads for a Cause now at Urban Outfitters
One of my latest and favorite discoveries is a super cool and super “do good” brand based right here in LA called Della, and select summer look book items are now available at Urban Outfitters and online. From vivid colors on laptop cases to gorgeous patterned hobo bags and Vans canvas shoes, these goods are aesthetically appealing and help provide jobs for artisans in Ghana.
Della is a Los Angeles-based company that is owned by women and run by women. The retail company works directly with the community in West Africa, providing jobs, education and skills training to their employees. Their team is dedicated to creating awareness about the need for a global market that provides socially-responsible, quality products. Founder, Tina Tangalakis, a native Angeleno, decided to combine her love of art and humanitarian efforts into one pro-active business. After studying costume design at California Institute of the Arts, she went on to become a TV and film wardrobe stylist. In 2009, she participated in a volunteer program in Ghana where she fell in love with the culture and the community of friends that she made. Tangalakis teamed up with an entrepreneur in Hohoe, Ghana and formed Della.

Fast forward a couple years, and the Della brand is growing! Earlier this year, Della teamed up with the infamous skate shoe and sneaker brand, Vans for the Della x Vans collection. This limited edition collection offers designs for both women’s and men’s shoe styles.
I’m really excited about the Vans canvas collection, the hobo bags, but especially the new the jalapeno turban. Prices for Della products start at $12 and go up to about $60 for the Vans. Check out the Della summer apparel collection at an Urban Outfitters near you or online. You can bet that you’ll see a Della item for the Fall House of G&C photo shoot, that’s for sure!
