Cause of the Day: Barnabus Clothing, Charitable Apparel right in LA’s Backyard

February 19, 2014

Do you know that friend who always has a million things going on but no matter what always looks ridiculously adorable AND always gets it all done? My friend Andrea is that friend. She’s always running around, outside of work, she’s a great aunt, sister, friend, volunteer and recently became a wife! We caught up a couple days ago and of course she was wearing a super cute graphic tee- so I asked about it (And how perfect! The apparel company is a charitable one!) She told me about the cool store in her neck of the woods, Barnabus Clothing, a local apparel company located in the very cute and quaint town of Pasadena, CA.

Barnabus Clothing sells a wide variety of casual apparel for women, kids and men including graphic tees, hoodies, scarves, bags, hats and outerwear. Prices range from $10-68.00 USD. Below are some new items from the online store and the cute gray Barnabus graphic tee Andrea wore that inspired this post. To shop, please check out the website here:, or visit their Shops @ Paseo (Pasadena, CA)  location 7 days a week.

The cool thing about Barnabas culture is the focus is to say something different- to stand up against society’s standard of what is normal and say, ‘Be bold and courageous!’ The culture is also about encouraging anyone and everyone to be fearless in making choices that make a difference in their lives. And the best way to express this message is to live it with the Barnabus mantra, “Live a life worth imitating”. The actual meaning of Barnabus is “Son of Encouragement” which comes from Biblical Latin and is a Greek form of an Aramaic name. In Acts in the New Testament the byname Barnabas was given to a man named Joseph, a companion of Paul on his missionary journeys. The original Aramaic is unattested, but it may be from בּר נביא (bar naviya’) meaning “son of the prophet”, though in Acts 4:36 it is claimed that the name means “son of encouragement”.

Barnabus Clothing sells mens, womens, and kids apparel where 10% of all sales go to benefit The Living Room International, a charity located in Western Kenya, in Africa. The Living Room International is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive care to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS or other life threatening illnesses. The charity’s vision is to be a community that honors life and offers hope and they do so by becoming family to those that are dying. The environment and atmosphere is that of a home – everyone is welcome and no one is left to face their pain or fears alone. Outside of the facility, The Living Room staff makes home visits. In addition to hospice care, The Living Room is a training institute on HIV/AIDS prevention and in collaboration with other organizations provides education and resources to the surrounding community.
